High quality rounded onions with a golden skin and the significant benefit of downy mildew resistance. Fast maturing but slow to bolt, providing early and maincrop harvests that store well.

A Best Buy variety as recommended by the Gardening Press and Consumer Groups.
Recommended by Tony Hall (Kew Gardens manager) in BBC Gardeners World Magazine (January 2015 edition):
“Grow it from seed to get good disease resistance, excellent flavour and yield, and even-sized bulbs that store well.”
Sow & Grow:

Sow indoors, January-April, for larger bulbs, 0.5cm (¼") deep, in a tray of seed compost. Water well and maintain a temperature of 15-20°C (60-68°F). Keep moist.

Transplant, 5cm (2”) apart, to other trays when large enough to handle.

Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 23cm (9") apart, during April-May.

Sow Outdoors: Sow thinly in April, where they are to crop, 1.5cm (½") deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-dug, fertile soil, which has already been watered. Allow 30cm (1') between rows.

Seedlings usually appear in 14-28 days. Thin plants to 23cm (9") apart. Transplant thinning's.

Harvest: August-September.

Allow onions to dry, before storing in a cool, dry room.

Hints & Tips:

Bred to help reduce plant disease naturally: If you want to garden organically or use less chemicals, these modern disease-resistant varieties will help. Greatly reducing the need for chemicals, they give tasty crops from the garden.
