Broccoli (Sprouting) Summer Purple Seeds from Mr Fothergill's Seeds and Plants.
High quality spears for summer.
Highly productive variety with many spears of tender green stems and purple florets. Superb for summer cropping as has good heat tolerance, requires no vernalisation enabling it to crop much earlier than traditional broccolis.
COOKING TIP: Lightly steam.
Sow & Grow:
Sow indoors, January-March, 0.5cm (¼") deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of approx. 13°C (55°F) is ideal. Keep moist. Transplant 5cm (2") apart to other trays, when large enough to handle.
Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts) before planting out, 60cm (2') apart during April-May, into well-cultivated, fertile soil.
Allow 60cm (2') between rows. Water well.
Harvest: June-October.
Hints & Tips:
Cut when shoots approx. 15cm (6") long. Harvest regularly to encourage further development. 1g of broccoli provides the daily requirement of vitamin C.
