Beetroot Moulin Rouge Seeds from Mr Fothergill's Seeds and Plants. 150 seeds. Easy to thin, monogerm variety.
An excellent quality 'monogerm' variety, it produces only one or two plants per seed so greatly reducing the need for wasteful thinning. The sweet tasting roots can be harvested young as 'baby' beet or left to mature. Beetroot For the earliest crops sow bolt-resistant varieties under cloches from mid-March, otherwise from April.
Sow & Grow:
Outdoors: Sow thinly, April-July, where they are to crop, 2.5cm (1") deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-cultivated, fertile soil, which has already been watered. Allow 30cm (1') between rows. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days.
Thin seedlings to 10cm (4") apart, or 5cm (2") apart for baby beet. Water well until plants are established.
Regular sowings, made every three weeks, should ensure a continuous supply of young beets.
Harvest: June-October.
Hints & Tips:
Twist the leaves off to prevent the colour 'bleeding.' Harvest alternate beets from 5cm (2") diameter, leaving others space to develop.
