Applications:
Can be used on wooden decking and steps or other wood surfaces where improved grip is desirable (e.g. play frames). A test patch in an inconspicuous area is recommended to determine compatibility and colour with previous finishes.
DIRECTIONS & PRODUCT APPLICATION:
Preparation on unpreserved new wood: If using on new, unpreserved timber treat with Nourish & Protect Universal Preservative (ideally 2 coats, all sides) and leave to dry for 24 - 48 hours prior to using Anti-Slip Top Coat Decking Oil. Preparation on preserved new wood: Recommend treating with Barrettine All-in-One Decking Oil or micro porous finish (ideally 2 coats, all sides) and leave to dry for 24 - 48 hours. N.B. New wood should be first wiped down with white spirit to remove surface resins etc. Highly resinous timbers and some hardwoods may effect performance and final results. The surface is then prepared and ready for Anti-Slip Top Coat Decking Oil. Preparation of insitu / existing wood: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from dust, dirt and algae. Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed. Treat with a mould and mildew cleaner if necessary. Treat with a decking oil or microporous finish (1-2 coats) and leave to dry for 24 - 48 hours before applying Anti-Slip Top Coat Decking Oil.
PRODUCT APPLICATION:
Shake well before use and stir during use. Decant into a paint kettle and apply an even coat to required surfaces to ensure optimum performance, finally brushing in the direction of wood grain. Normally one coat applied liberally with a wide bristle brush is sufficient, a second coat may be applied after 12 - 24 hours. Leave for 24 - 72 hours or until dry before subjecting to foot traffic. Do not apply if the ambient temperature is below 5°C, in damp conditions or rain is likely within 24 hours of application. Clean up all equipment with White Spirit. Coverage of up to 17 square metres per litre depending upon absorbency of wood. Anti-Slip Top Coat Decking Oil is unsuitable to use as a stand alone finish on bare/untreated decking boards and other timber surfaces.
Limitations:
Please be aware anti-slip properties will be reduced due to certain conditions/situations. i.e. over time due to weathering, the potential build-up of mould & algae if not treated, in very wet conditions or when the surface is wet or damp and over a period of time due to wear and tear from foot traffic. We recommend surfaces treated with ANTI-SLIP TOP COAT DECKING OIL are retreated after 6 months or as soon as it has been noted the anti-slip properties have been reduced. The anti-slip performance will also be affected if the treated surface is not kept clean and any soiled material is not removed. Heavily trafficked areas will need to be renovated more frequently when signs of wear are detected. Standing water will reduce the effectiveness of grip so should be swept away, likewise swollen wood with raised fibres (this also indicates water repellency has decreased). This material is intended for use in light domestic situations.
Not for use in areas of constant high humidity, wet or damp areas such as shower rooms and around swimming pools.
